It all begins with a dream ~
Sadly, BRIAH Dance Company was put on hold during COVID. Small Companies do not have a chance of surviving in these years to recoup and rebrand. Below - you will find the ‘dream’. I wanted to take time with the dancers, with the times and with the expressions, memories, and sharing through performances, workshops, in-school and community work. Unfortunately - it takes money, space and place and people to believe in the dream or are simply like minded…… Thank you to the dancers, the staff and the Board that I have worked with: the Tudor Trust, Balanchine Trust, and Arpino Foundation and individual choreographers. We did a good job and ours was a special journey.
Is there a place for a new dream?

BRIAH Danse Company - WAS a non-profit artistic, educational organization. The company has been ‘project based with a season from May - August - with a hope of being a full year round small contemporary ballet company - supporting and inspiring the people who dance, live and are inspired by the arts. COVID has severely impacted the journey of BRIAH
Each year 10-12 dancers join me to create, work together and for each other in a unique environment of discovery. We deepen and discover ourselves through an art that is vital and precious; life-giving and sustaining… and I watch the tiny miracles of keeping company with each other. It is an ‘old’ way of having a company - but there was a time when Ninette de Valois told me that it was the only way to rediscover ourselves in and through dance and the arts - to continue to meet ourselves as exciting strangers on new pathways to bright horizons!
BRIAH is dedicated to the roots of dance as an art in society.
Toward this we work with the Antony Tudor Trust; Amanda McKerrow & John Gardner to rebuild and share Tudor Work. BRIAH has also been cleared to perform through the Balanchine Trust, and Joffrey/Arpino Foundation to support and continue to be inspired by great works of the past. We have worked with Limon, Graham and Cunningham dancers, Cleo Parker Robinson, Ralph Hamilton, Andre Mergedichian and invited Martin Freidmann to join us in programming Legend & Legacies.
We also engage new and innovative choreographers and collaborate with musicians and composers, visual artists and challenge the company with edgy possibilities of new work for our times. Please send your work to BRIAH Danse for consideration. We are looking forward to expressing and presenting the living records of these times.
This year , we had started a new work called “UBUNTU” ~UBUNTU means- ‘I’m you… you are me…WE are all!’ It was a story of our times, of people, migrations, separation, integration, care and destruction - a reflection of humanity in these times - with dances and rhythms, colors and textures, tones and deep rooted feeling… we had only just begun with ‘Hamsa’ - The Guardian - Keeper of time.
Project 2020 was cancelled due to COVID 19.
It is my dream to continue BRIAH Danse Company; to build and speak again - to lift, inspire and tell the stories of our times. Please join me in whatever way you can - You can become a Board Member; Volunteer with your expertise and energy….please.
Dance with us! We can be… small but mighty! and of course - yes - you can always donate through BRIAH Danse - website: www.briahdanse.com or here as well.
